Sleep

This article is about sleep mostly in humans. For non-human sleep, see Sleep (non-human). For other uses, see Sleep (disambiguation). "Waking up", "Asleep", and "Slept" redirect here. For other uses, see Waking Up (disambiguation), Asleep (disambiguation), or SLEPT analysis. Description Sleeping is associated with a state of muscle relaxation and limited perception of environmental stimuli. In animals, sleep is a naturally recurring state characterized by altered consciousness, relatively inhibited sensory activity, and inhibition of nearly all voluntary muscles.[1] It is distinguished from wakefulness by a decreased ability to react to stimuli, and it is more easily reversible than being in hibernation or a coma.
